The Greatest Story Ever Told About
The Greatest Man That Ever Lived
Who Are God's Children
Is everyone a child of God? We have heard it many times that we are all God’s children. That God
is our Heavenly Father and we are his children. And many similar references which infer that
everyone is one of God’s children. Believing this one would think that it doesn’t matter how we
live our lives, or what we do or believe, in the end, we will all end up with God as one big happy
family. After all if we are God’s children then why wouldn’t we be with our Father?

But is this what God said? Does the Bible teach this? Let’s check it out.

“He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who received him,
to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born
not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.”  John 1:11-14

This is the Apostle John speaking about Jesus and he says that Jesus came to “his own” which
could be interpreted as his children, or the people of this world, or the jews. But they did not
receive him as their spiritual leader. Then he goes on to tell us who actually are the “children of
God” when he says “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the
right to become the children of God” So there are criteria to meet in order to become a child of
God. It’s not automatic for everyone, it’s for those that do the following: Receive Jesus and
believe in His name. You cannot become a child of God unless you first accept Jesus as your Lord
and Savior by receiving what He did for you on the cross and believing in Him. Then you become
a child of God.

John goes on to say that this is a supernatural, spiritual experience because it is not from being
born through physical means but it is being “born of God”. And what he means is that when you
come to the place in your life that you want to yield your life to Jesus and accept what He did for
you by dying on the cross, then there is a re-awakening of your Spirit and you become a child of
God.

So we are NOT all God’s children. Only those that believe in Jesus are God’s children. This is why
Jesus said to the Pharisees who were the religious leaders of the time “If God were your Father
you would love me..”  He knew they weren’t children of God, but they thought they were. He went
on to tell them “You belong to your father, the devil..” to which they became very upset.

But how many people today are equally deceived into believing that they are children of God
when in fact they may belong to their father the devil? The only way according to the Bible to
become a child of God is to accept Jesus as your Savior. Those that don’t are not children of God
regardless of what they say they are.
